Blackbeard's is often described as camping at sea and the term is apt, though I was in the bow cabin and, with four racks and only two of us in it, there was plenty of room and reasonable privacy. Much less privacy if you are in the main cabin/salon, but the berths are larger there. The crew was great. Bill the captain was highly experienced, safety conscious, and had a fine dry sense of humor. Kate the cook did wonders considering the budget and space, but as one would expect the menus leaned toward carbs. Good salads and desserts with every lunch and dinner. The rest of the crew was good, too and the entire crew worked very hard to make it a good trip. We hit some bad weather and Bill worked mightily to get us to good diving and as many dives in as possible. They worked hard, and pleasantly, to accomodate requests. We did lose a day and a half of diving to the weather, but the boat can't control that. We spent the time in Alice Town, Bimini, a place not worth near that much time, even if you like Hemingway. We traveled a lot to find divable weather. It's not fancy and not supposed to be; it is cheap and a lot for the money. |
