Haven't been to Bonaire in 10 years. Prior to that I took the family
every year and sometimes and some times twice a year but with college and
4 kids couldn't afford both Bonaire for 6 people and college for 4 kids.
Ancient history ALM and Air Jamaica flew to Bonaire. They arrived early
and departed at human friendly hours. If you fly American airlines you have
to go to Puerto Rico. American likes to fly out of Puerto Rico in a
"small" turboprop at 8pm arriving Bonaire 10 pm or on the return
American wants to leave in a small Turboprop from Bonaire at 5:30 AM
-WHAT!!!! Now delta has flights from Atlanta on Saturday only one day a
week. If your scuba gear and clothes doesn't make the flight you'll get it
next Saturday on your departure from Bonarire. My flight form Columbia
S.C. was canceled so I missed the Delta connection to Atlanta and then to
Bonaire. Delta put me on American for 7:30 AM departure and arrived in
Bonarie at 10 pm (Through Puerto Rico). of course everything is closed
when you get to Bonaire and through customs by 11 pm.A better option to get
to Bonaire is fly Delta or American Airlines to Aruba. I believe each
airline has two flights a day in a "big" jet and your scuba gear
will be on it. On the turbo props sometimes your luggage will come the
next day because of weight .Once in Aruba fly Tiara Air (1-297-582-0901) of
DAE- Dutch Antillean Airline (1-297-588-1900). you'll have to pick up your
luggage from delta or American in Aruba and re-check on Tiara Air or DAE.
this easily done and the flights are not expensive. They fly daily and
instead of leaving Bonaire every seventh day like Delta DOES(Saturday to
Saturday flight). you could spend a day or two extra and fly from Aruba on
any day in a big jet. Tiara Air is the National Airline for the Dutch
Antilles very Reliable. The Aruba Airport information phoneline is
1-297-524-2424. Stayed at the HARBOR VILLAGE. This is our 3rd time there
the 2nd time was ten years ago. when ever we go here we don't take the
kids. Only "real" sandy beach in Bonaire. Don't have
"Rip-Rap" or Boulders to go around. The old CLOSED Sunset Beach
Hotel has a nice beach and soon to be rebuilt as condos in 2010. For now
stay at the Harbor village and get a Beach front suite. The hotel
restaurant La Balandra (closes at 10 PM) is excellent I had to come all
this way to get the best cheeseburger in Paradise. Next to the hotel on
the Marina is Vespucci a Mediterranean restaurant and its excellent .About
a 100 yards walk from the hotel is Patagonia a steak restaurant and its
wonderful.. They beef comes form Venezuela or Columbia. Rent cars from
Everts CAR Rentals always been honest with me! The hotel has a wreck off
the Beach and a wonderful Reef. we spent 10 days and it was great. I've
dove around the world (Palau, Galapagos, Fiji, Bali, etc.)And Bonaire is
still so nice to dive. I'm glad milk doesn't just come on the island only
on Tuesday any more.
