Comments My friend had asked where I wanted to go diving. I said La Corbetena! It is a small island outside of Bahia de Banderas where viewing of larger pelagic fish is optimal. Since it is tuna, marlin, and swordfish season I was totally stoked. I had asked questions of the local divers if they had dove there. A few had, but mostly went on about the long ride to site (approximately 2 hours by boat). The reviews I found said do not even try during the winter months because of strong currents. We rented a Captain and his boat to take us there. On the way out we briefed each other about our concerns, watched some gray whales, saw a turtle swimming, and then we arrived. Water was a slow choppy. Easy surface conditions. Ascending there were no crazy currents that met us. Everything was really green. Very healthy corals. Spotted many smaller fish: barberfish, angelfish, several species of puffers, moreys, and several times a tornado of jacks flooded around us. Really cool rock formations. Short tunnels. Sandy bottom. We didn’t get to see any swordfish, marlin, tuna, but it was a fantastic location. So if you find yourself in Puerto Vallarta I recommend this dive.
