Comments For us the trip started in San Diego, CA at the Best Western in a large conference room. There a representative will check your passport, start Mexican immigration paperwork, and verify your diver certification. Then a bus will take you on about a 3 hour bus trip to the ship in Ensenada Mexico. We booked a 2 person stateroom below deck. It had a comfy bunk bed with a private bathroom, and 4 small cabinets for your personal belongings. Meals were great & served family style. For an additional charge, domestic & imported beer selection was pretty good with wine also available. The camera table was very large with plenty of room & charging outlets. The shark activity was slow on the first day but picked up significantly by the second half of day 2. On the 3rd day 4 great whites arrived 12 to 15 feet long. Recent regulation changes means it takes longer for the sharks to show up. There are 2 submersible cages that hold 3 divers and a crew member. Divers are assigned schedules to coordinate usage. You can have it dropped down to a max depth of 30 feet or stay on the surface. There is 1 surface cage that holds up to 4 people. No scheduling is done for the surface cage so anyone can hop in when there is an opening. You can stay in the surface cage as long as you like. I skipped a scheduled submersible cage session for a stay in the surface cage of 1 hour and 40 minutes. Most of the action is on the surface as the crew wrangles 2 baits. And the shark action is definetly exciting!! Be prepapared for the possibility of a really rough boat ride. We experienced 8 to 10 foot swells on the way to Guadalupe island. Everything was calm once anchored and on the trip back to port. Check the video made from a collection of photos & videos from the divers on the trip.

I highly recommend the Nautilus ships and book your trip during the period when shark action is best. From what I understand August through November is best for Guadalupe island.

UW Photo Comments While I'm not at the professional level of UW photography, the pros on the ship were impressed with the signicicant amount of room for equipment. A big plastic trash can is kept full of fresh water for cameras.
