Comments Rocio Del Mar does everything just right. We consistently saw large numbers of large sharks (White tips, Rock White Tips, Galapagos, Silver Tips, Hammerheads, and Silky). There was only a day or two that we didn't find and get some great videos of a Whale Shark. And, dolphins frequently joined us during the first dive of the day. It was so amazing to have two or more 3-5 meter Mantas circling us at the end of each dive.

The ship is certainly designed for diving and divers. I loved the stand up tank stands and the center camera area. The lounge and dinning areas comfortable and encourages you to get to know the other divers and share the day's diving experiences. Everyone of the crew does their jobs in a quite, professional manner and they stay focused on ensuring that to every extent possible you are having an fun, safe, and enjoyable experience.

The divemasters are top shelf and pay attention to their divers. All in all, this was one of the best diving trip of my life. Most dives start with you dropping down to between 100'- 120' and then swimming out into the blue in search of large sharks and Hammerheads. Our divemaster did a great job of slowly bring us up and back to end the dive watching large schools of chubs, trigger fish, tuna, wahoo, and of course, mantas and whale sharks.

The food is excellent and portions are large. I especially appreciated that they served seafood, as well as, Mexican style dishes. Several divers were vegans and Chief Paco consistently provided them with tasty meals that were equal or better the items listed on the daily menu.

The only down side is that these trips are often sold out a year or more in advance....

Hint #1- they keep the lounge, dining area, and bedrooms very cold so bring a warm over garment Fortunately for me, the whole group wanted it warmer inside so the crew turned up the thermostat.

Hint #2 - There are cheap shuttles ($13/person) that will transport you from the airport to the local hotels. You just have to walk past all the guys that mob you as you leave the customs/baggage area and go directly to the taxi/shuttle outside. They all speak English and the coordinator will take you luggage and walk you to the van that is going to your hotel/resort. You pay the diver in cash and just wait in the air conditioned cab until it fills up. If your catching a cab be sure to tell the driver that you are going to the new marina. The next day I took a cab ($20) to the boat and my driver knew all about the Rocio and easily took me to the boat area. At the end of the trip the boat staff will arrange taxis for you and the 4 split the $50 fare to the airport.

Hint #3 - Try to arrive with $20-$30 in $1s and $5s as this will make tipping and paying for shuttles so much easier. You can get change in USA dollars at your resort/hotel but their exchange rates is pretty high and if you ask for Pesos you'll have a hard time getting enough small bills for tips....
