Flying Sportsman Plan
from the May, 2000 issue of Undercurrent
Philippine Airlines has a nifty new program
that’s perfect for divers traveling with gear.
Two-year enrollment in the “Flying Sportsman
Program” is only $20 and entitles divers
to bring along sports equipment for one (in
addition to the original baggage allowance)
at no extra charge. The pass is valid on all
international and Philippine flights with no
limitations on flight frequency. Baggage
allowances vary by sport; divers are allotted
66 lbs. of dive gear in addition to their
original luggage allowance. PAL offers some attractive fares as well,
including a first or business class “two-fer” from SF/LA to Manila for
$2,988 for two. From there, divers can connect to local and Asian dive
spots as well as Continental’s flights to Palau, Yap, and Guam. Check out
PAL’s program on their website at www.philippineair.com, e-mail them
at prodev@pal.com.ph, or call 800 I FLY PAL.
