It’s rare indeed these days to find a
product that lasts and that has a manufacturer
who stands behind it. Longtime
Undercurrent subscriber Edward
Donohue (Smithsburg, MD) says he
has found the real deal in Princeton
Tec. In the early '80s, he bought the
Bottom Timer (remember those?) and several
of their underwater lights, finding them reliable,
economical and long-lasting for his dive trips
around the globe. In December, Donahue found
that one of the bottom lights did not function
properly and sent it back to Princeton Tec. “In my
letter, I mentioned that it had quite a bit of use
and if the warranty no longer applied, they could
just discard it,” he says.
To his surprise, a package arrived less than a
month later with a brand-new TEC 400 flashlight.
Also included was a letter from the customer service
department advising Donahue that the model
he had sent was no longer being manufactured
and they were replacing it with the newest version.
“Who provides that kind of lifetime warranty
service anymore?” Donahue says. In this case,
Princeton Tec showed it is one company that stays
true to its word.
