Comments A week aboard in Exuma Cays & Eleuthera. 26 dives, good weather (though Nov. is still officially hurricane season.) The company arranges transfers from NAS to dock and there are places to wait if you arrive early.
Capt. Ron is a dedicated and knowledgeable diver and chooses sites and potential transits (Exuma to/from Eleuthera = 3 hours motor) to optimize diving conditions and minimize other boats on sites. We dove nitrox (average 31%.) Max depth 91 ft, average 59 ft. Having different air consumption rates, we benefitted from the availability of 100 ft3 tanks as well as the usual 80s.
The food was the best of our 32 liveaboard charters. Varied, nicely prepared, and responsive to specific wants like vegetarians. Somehow, Chef Kelly managed fresh lettuce for 6 days of salads. Meats were cooked just right and the coffee cookies were perfect.
The walls and most of the shallow sites were in good shape; a few of the shallow dives had weather or diver wear. Dog Rocks (a wall, despite the name), Jeep Reef and Hammerhead Gulch [no hammerheads] were the best. Few lion fish despite no hunting effort from the boat. Few big fish except sharks, but plenty of small to middle-size groupers, snappers & c to populate the future reefs. The dive crew is experienced & attentive without nagging. No quizzing on depth, time & c. Except for the last day (2 dives) a dive guide is in the water for those who want to follow. There is a shark feed, but the crew was good about our going elsewhere on the very nice wall @ Split Coral Head during the feeding frenzy. There is a clothesline and clothespins (great idea!) above the dive/tank stations for drying towels, suits & c. Things dry quickly. Tanks are filled in place and promptly. Entries are giant-stride from water level or deck at 6 ft, take yr choice. Two private showers and a head on dive deck, plus there are hot water sprayers at the top of boarding ladders.
Cabins are pretty spacious, and on the same level as dive deck. Bathrooms with showers are large. Exhaust fan from bathroom is weak – use the clotheslines on deck for drying.
Aqua Cat is excellent, well worth a week, and only 2 hours flight from Atlanta.
