Comments Epic Dive run a number of shark diving trips to different areas of the Bahamas during different times of the year- Tiger sharks off Grand Bahama Island, Great Hammerheads off Bimini, & Oceanic White-tips from April to June, operating as day trips out of Greenwood Beach Resort in Southern Cat Island. The Oceanic White-tip program delivers exactly what it promises - Oceanic White-tips, every day, for hours on end. Photgraphers will obtain dramatic, close-up shots of these beautiful, impressive animals.
Only those who are comfortable with very close interactions with large (7+ foot) sharks should consider this operation. Unlike almost all other sharks I've seen, the Oceanic White Tips here are very bold - expect to be bumped, or at very least experience multiple very close passes from the white-tips.
All of the diving was done in deep blue water, this trip is not for inexperienced divers who don't like open-ocean diving.
The operators of Epic Diving - Vincent & Deborah - are clearly passionate about sharks & giving divers opportunities to experience the Bahama's impressive array of sharks. I do however have some reservations about their operation - a guest asked Vincent if he hand-fed the Oceanic White-Tips, he advised not, on account of safety reasons. I did however see Vincent hand-feed the sharks the next day, he also showed me a photo of him hand-feeding a huge Tiger shark at Tiger Beach. I don't think it is a good idea at all for Oceanic White Tips or Tiger sharks to start associating human hands with food.
I enjoyed the close interactions with these magnificent animals & would hate to someone get hurt as a result of an accidental bite.

The other negative - I saw little else other than a handful of reef sharks & a barracuda or two. Deborah advised me that they had seen marlin, a great hammerhead shark & a tiger shark during their Oceanic White-Tip trips this year, I didn't see any of these.
Overall, I enjoyed my 4 days with Epic Diving, but encourage them to maintain the high safety standards required for this sort of diving.

I also make mention of Greenwood Beach Resort - it isn't a 5 star resort but has a great atmosphere, the food was great & it is situated on a long stretch of pristine beach, I loved the place.

UW Photo Comments If you want dramatic pictures of Oceanic White Tip sharks this is the place. Apart from a couple of Caribbean reef sharks not much other subject matter however. Epic Diving's boat (the Thresher)isn't large & has basic facilities for post-dive rinses but not much else.
