Comments This was my second dive at San Salvador. Previous dive 2019 at Club Med. Take away from that dive was the recommendation to try Riding Rock. So happy I did.
As most reviews reflect, Riding rock resort is rustic, but the basic needs are covered. The resort seems to cater to sport fishing, but enough divers stay there and go with Guanahani operation.
I chose the seven day/six days of diving for a total of 18 dives. Time of stay is driven by Bahama Air flights.
Easy Bahamas Air flight from Miami to San Salvador since Club Med opened up again. If that flight is removed, travel to San Sal gets complicated. Flight from the mainland to Nassau to San Sal.
Arrival on Saturday afternoon greeted by Michelle and lunch is served. The dive group for the week was a total of six, family of three, myself and two other guys. After lunch, a rest period followed a meet with Guanahani Dive Master Bruce to address waivers and orientation. Bruce is an easy going professional that knows his business and the dive sites inside and out. Cocktail hour in the bar followed by dinner. Food was basic but really good.
Sunday breakfast at eight, kit up and make a short walk to the marina.
Charged tanks on boat. Nitrox is available when Bruce can get tanks from Club Med. Two morning dives, one afternoon dive. It was a luxury being on a boat with only six divers. Another upside was all six were very experienced. Over the six days, we were able to dive the majority of the eighteen sites. Crew was Bruce and Clay, the boat Captain. Onboard segregated buckets for mask and camera rinsing. One consistent was sharks with us on every dive. Word is the sharks are always in vicinity due to fish cleaning going on by boats heading back to the marina. You won’t see that at Club Med. Sharks, turtles, eels and rays. The family I dove with were experts in identification of small sea life. On the Orbit’s canyon dive, depth of 133fsw. If there is a downside, summertime has no see um’s, lots of bug bites.
Strongly recommend San Sal and Riding Rock as a dive destination to put on the list. I am looking for a spring dive to see hammerheads.
