Comments Our dive shop, Wateree Dive Center from Columbia, SC returned to Riding Rock in San Sal for the first time since 2009. This was our 6th trip here & we looked forward to returning, especially since Hurricane Joaquin devastated the island last October. We flew American Airlines from Charlotte to Nassau ( late, changed planes, wrong arrival gate in Nassau) but Bahama's Air was great in holding a plane for the hour flight to San Sal. The hotel is basic & this is a diver's resort so if you want "5 star" amenities, don' t come. Water is a problem here & ice is limited, but we thoroughly enjoyed the food, which was superb. The hotel staff is excellent, with great attitudes, really wanting to make our stay enjoyable. The rooms are clean & certainly adequate.
The dive operation is run by Michigan Adventure Diving & Tyler, Dan, & Betsy really were superb in all aspects of the dive operation. The boat is adequate & the diving was extraordinary. The viz was 125 ft. plus with sharks seen on 16 of 17 dives. The juveniles look good & there were less lionfish than the last time we were here. The overall fish life was really good, although there was some bleached coral seen. We really enjoyed the diving. Overall, we were impressed by the efforts to rebuild this venue into a top notch diving destination, after a devastating hurricane which closed the hotel for 4 months or so. We will definitely return.
