Comments Our dive shop, Wateree Dive Center in Columbia, SC journeyed to San Sal which has been a regular destination for a number of years. We flew AA from CLT to Nassau, then Bahamas Air to San Sal. The air schedule is still being evolved and only 2 am flights weekly. Riding Rock Inn is basic, but the rooms are clean, but wifi is poor in rooms. The food is plentiful with buffet breakfasts, & choices of 2 entree’s at lunch & dinner. The pool is very adequate. The bar is good, run by Peaches. There were a number of sportfishermen there & the atmosphere is very good.
The dive operation, run by Guanahani Divers is excellent. Tyler & Betsy we’re on every dive & easy to work with. The boat is fine & most dive sites were 5-20 minutes away. The visibility was phenomenal! The viz was 100-125 feet all week! There were numerous sharks, reef, & were seen on every dive of the week. There was a good bit of green leafy algae on some sites, and some bleaching of coral also. Lionfish, which were very abundant in the past , have been kept under good control. Small fish life was ok. We only saw 1 turtle all week.
The people of San Sal are wonderful & it is a very poor island, especially with Club Med still closed. There is little to do for nondivers except fish, but everyone here was beyond nice & glad that we were here.
This dive destination is not for those wanting 5 star amenities, but for diving, it is really good & we will definitely return.

Riding Rock is my favorite destination, been there many times. The laid back atmosphere is for me. I am glad to hear that Club Med is still closed. It ruined the island, maybe not for the residents, but for other tourists, yes.
