Comments First, loved Xanadu Resort. The staff (and the local population for that matter) were happy and helpful. Much better than the "American" hotels around the Caye. Nice beach and pool. Carts at a good price. You need to get into town. Most of the week with Ambergris Divers on the local reef. Picked this shop since they do not assault the sea life like the others do. Same dive every day, just a different name - Tuffee, Dos Cocos, Esmarelda, etc. The coral is in very bad shape, few fish and all very small except for the nurse sharks. Hol Chan was much better with good sea life and better coral life, but we had to fight to get there. We were the only divers on the boat each day so I sort of understand why the shop wanted to stay close, but after a week you would think that they would want to show us something nice since I had been complaining about how poor the diving had been (and about the short dive times). They gave in only for the last day.

We went with Aqua Dives for a trip to the Blue Hole. Yes, you have to do it once. The diving out around Half Moon Caye was wonderful - healthy coral, big and little fish. Hundreds of schooling fish filled the water. Turtles and Barracuda made my day. However, the DM would not stop feeding and playing with the fish. No diver responded, but that didn't stop him from assaulting everything he saw. If we go again, we will skip Ambergris and go to Hopkins or Turneffe.
