Comments Dove Turneffe Island with Amigos del Mar from San Pedro, a 3-tank dive with meals for US$230, on their big Blue Hole boat, even tho we only had 6 divers. Dive operation was well run and probably the largest on the island. Took about 1.5 hrs to get to Turneffe, big boat was a blessing. Diving was good, not great. We dove 3 sites on the north end with the last site called the Mini-Elbow being the best. Vast array of fish life and pretty healthy corals. 60 to 80 ft vis. (They said it was too far to go to the Elbow on the south tip.) The only challenging part was getting up the ladder in the chop. There was only one other dive boat in the area that I saw. Just a note - the two 'other' dives on the Blue Hole trip are at Long Caye and Half Moon Caye, both excellent dive sites even if the Blue Hole might not excite you. I only dove Hol Chan locally, which is a nice shallow cut dive. I did hear of numerous eagle ray sightings in the canyons outside the reef as well as dolphin dives. I would dive with these guys again.

We stayed at AquaVista hotel, a nice little 6-room place on the north side of town. Friendly staff, clean cool rooms. Next door to Wayos Bar, a happening place (all the time). Very comparable to Paradise Villas just down the beach, which are maybe a little nicer and a little quieter. Next time we think we'll try Caye Casa which, like Paradise, has a pool. AquaVista has a nice beach but no pool. We like to stay within walking distance of town and prefer the north side, from the Phoenix up to Caye Casa. The Sunset Suites and Mayan Princess in town also look nice. There a very nice places further up and down the beach, but factor in a golf cart rental at US$60/day.
Doc's was our favorite place to eat, but there are many good places. And whatever you do, don't miss the Hermit crab races at Crazy Canucks on Tue nights!

We're trying to determine if diving in Belize will be a good experience. We were disappointed in Bonaire...everything was beige and little marine life. Any guidance will be appreciated.
