Comments Amigos del Mar facilities are immediately adjacent to Mayan Princess, a huge plus, since all we had to do was walk out the front door and get on the boat and go. This also allows for maximum sleep-in time. Amigos del Mar is a first class operation with Nitrox available at $10 per bottle. We dove with Catptain Rene and DM Tony, old regulars, according to previous Chap Book Reports. The skiff is fast and you roll in backward. For getting our they have a suitable ladder. We had a ten dive package and did not choose to go to the Blue Hole mainly due to added cost. Amigos del Mar have a large vessel well suited to the 12 hour Blue Hole Trip, however. Local diving consisted of racing outside of inner harbor and geting in the water all within about 20 minutes. Rene feeds the fish during entry and exit. I am nuetral about this practice as the fish do not seem to mind and it did not add any danger to the dives. We got about 55 minutes out of each dive. Surface interval was taken back at the shop where oranges and watermelon were in abundance. Wind was pretty much steady out of ENE the entire time. Slightly rainy days generated the smoothest surface conditions. All the reef sites vistied were pretty homonegeous. Visbiility was only about 60 feet. We saw numerous nurse shark, very larger grouper, turtles, eels, lobster, spotted eagle rays and not one lion fish. On one safety stop, a 4 pod of dolphin swam around us several times. Mayan Princess is in fine condition. A pool would have been a plus but being in San Pedro has its advantages as there are lots of food choices and few mosquitos or other no-seeums. Our package included hotel accomodations, diving and flights from Belize City on Tropic Air. Save $40 for exit fee. I would go back to do more outer island trips such as Blue Hole.
