Comments I was delighted to have the opportunity to dive for about six weeks (50+ dives) with Avadon Divers in Placencia. The operation is first-class, with a Newton 46 as the main dive boat and the owners, Anne-Marie and Philip, hands-on working every day in the operation. Avadon arranges pick-ups up and down the Placencia peninsula, so no worries about getting to the dive boat in the morning. Their rental gear is good quality and well-maintained. Their Belizean dive guides, DM's and instructors, are professional, friendly, FUN, and extremely knowledgeable about local areas! Snorkellers and UW photographers were also well-taken-care of. Great food, too! And I was able to complete my DM training with them - thanks, Arthur!

The dive conditions were excellent. Viz was very good: lots of corals, tropical fish (all sizes), sponges - and for people looking for the bigger stuff, more turtles (hawksbill and loggerhead mostly, but one leatherback!) and more eagle rays than you could count. We were too early for the whale sharks but did see a hammerhead and lots of moray eels, lobsters, groupers, etc. etc.

Placencia is an easy and relaxed place to stay. Great range of affordable accommodation (Avadon helped with that as well), excellent food (check out Pirate's Grill and Dawn's Grill'n'Go)...renting bikes here is a nice way to spend non-diving time by heading up the peninsula. Swimming beaches here are lovely!

The only downside? 45 minutes to an hour to get to most dive sites on the boat...but it's worth it! We will definitely be back, and definitely diving with Avadon! Particularly interested in doing their " Belize Atolls Adventure" 7-night package which includes three nights on Long Caye!
