Comments It has been four years since our last trip on the Belize Aggressor- we just wanted a week of easy diving- which is what this trip gave us.
The reefs seemed to be in better shape than 4 years ago- it was our fourth trip on this boat, so we knew what to expect. There seemed to be less algae, more soft corals, lots of big sponges, big groupers, sharks, turtles, mantas, and lots of fish. The boat is getting older, of course, rooms were redone, but adequate- the only complaint is the sink is so small that brushing your teeth was a challenge to use the sink and not spit on the floor.
The crew was terrific, as was the food.
We had very windy weather, which affected the viz somewhat, but we also had sponges spawning, sending clouds of gametes on the reef. We usually do not travel during the hurricane season, but we lucked out in late June to fairly good weather. For the first time in several trips, we saw big groupers, and Goliath Groupers, with huge Tarpon on night dives. Sharks of several species swam around us on most dives.
For the first time, we stayed the first night at the Princess Casino(?) hotel, a mile from the marina- it was run down- and in the future, we would return to the Ft George Hotel by the dock, as we had in the past.
Even though I suffered from ear problems- first time in over 35 years- and had to skip some dives- it was a good, fun week, with lots to photograph, and easy diving. We have over 3000+ dives from all over the world, and have seen dramatic changes for the worst, but Belize seems to holding its own...
