Comments Belize City itself appeared to be a canker on the behind of the Caribbean. Two other divers were accosted by beggars inside the "tourist area". The weather for the week was windy and cloudy, which caused my small group to freeze while attending to our gear after diving.

The first night's ride from Belize City out to the week's dive areas was pretty rough, complicated by a struggling A/C in our room. We had the upper deck cabin (well worth the price), where the rooms and boat were comparable to other live-aboards we've taken. Having said that, we did have some insects in our room. The Nitrox fills averaged a bit low (28-30%) but it wasn't really a problem.

The reefs have decent life on them, but the hard corals are showing signs of pressure; many were covered with algae and several were showing signs of disease. Overall, the diving was good but not great. Most of the diving was done off Lighthouse Reef and Long Caye. The last site of the trip on Turneffe was terrible; dead coral, little fish life, and a feeling of rough use caused me to skip the last dive of the trip.

The crew was outstanding! Captains Marc and Jay made the trip. Dive pro Nadia was quite helpful and pleasant, while the cook and the steward were pleasant, but not overly friendly. The food was varied, and vegetarian options were (as I saw it) accommodated easily and without attitude.

We did have a great time, but we won't be returning to Belize. If either Captain moves to a different boat, we would make a point of following them.
