Comments Having enjoyed diving Belize's atolls during several previous trips, this time we were staying in the Hopkins Bay area and wanted to see what the diving was like from the main shores of Belize. This dive operation had very large boats going out, holding on the order of 30 or more guests/snokelers/divers; it felt a bit like a cattle call. The boat ride was about 45min getting out to the destination, then we were divided into groups. They were pretty well organized, dividing between snokelers, divers and those learning how to dive. They paid good attention to safety. The dive sites were mostly unremarkable, maybe overdived compared to the outer-laying atolls we're used to diving there. It seemed that the divemasters were rushing to get through with the dives; they had a fixed schedule (to get back to shore and prep for the afternoon trips). All-in-all, it wasn't the kind of dive experience we look for, as we prefer slow divemasters that allow us more bottom time since we don't guzzle air. But it seemed to be a safe operation that catered more to inexperienced divers or those learning. If I dive from the main shores of Belize again, I will look for a different location and operation.
