Comments We went to Blackbird Caye Resort because of the Undercurrent Reviews--and we were not disappointed. We have been on two Aggressor liveaboards and one other (Turneffe Flats) resort. This was the best. Why? The resort is 5 to 10 minutes away from lots of dive sites, with a reef right off the resort. The DMs really know the sites, better than the liveaboards since they have been diving them for years. We just stayed with DM Juan and he found all kinds of critters. And then there is Lucy the young Nurse shark that followed us a lot, great videos and pics! They didn't want me to dive the Blue Hole because with over 1,000 dives and dives of 150 feet I only have Open Water. I didn't care because the Blue Hole is boring--but the other two dives in that area are exceptional. We had six beautiful Caribbean Reef Sharks following us on those dives, great videos. Wish we would have done the Elbow more than once; it is a great dive site. But they are not flexible on changing the week of diving--they should be more flexible. One Eagle, No Mantas or Whale Sharks. The resort did fine on COVID, and we were told all had been vaccinated, as we all had been. One surprise--the food was outstanding! I was happy that I only gained a couple pounds! We will return.

Curious has to why you haven't completed AOW and how you were allowed to do dives to 150 ft. I have 1300 dives, and I got my AOW on the next dive trip after OW certification. If you can't go below 60 feet, you are limiting your dive buddy to that level.

My wife and I have been diving for 24 years all over the world. I never have been told that I can't go under 60 feet with Open Water until This Year at two dive resorts, not on the liveaboards. Perhaps PADI is trying to enforce their own silly rule so they can make more money selling AOW. Perhaps Undercurrents can inquire with PADI.

I've been on 17 liveaboard trips in the last 12 years and was always asked for my credentials, especially if I plan to use Nitrox (Enriched Air certification). Dive operators are increasingly concerned about liability. No recreational diver wants to be faced with risking their own life to save a diver who gets into trouble. Making an emergency ascension from 100 feet is a lot harder than from 60 feet.Just saying.
