Comments We like a mixture of land and scuba, and Hamanasi delivered. We arrived 5 days after a tropical storm hit the Yucatan. Our 8 day/5 adventure package included options for 2 tank S Barrier reef dives [we did a total of 5 dives] as well as land options for hikes/ caves, tubing, birds and Mayan sites. On our 2nd day Hamanasi arranged a single afternoon dive with a divemaster for my wife who hadn't been diving for >1 year [so we didn't have to do a refresher course in the pool]. That dive and 4 additional were on the southern barrier reef 30 minutes away [not the atolls] which were fine, although the dive profiles are square [e.g. 50-70 ft for 45 min]. We dove nitrox [31%+/- blended] on air profiles and generally were in the yellows. Equipment [BCD/reg] and boats [with oxygen] were well maintained, dive masters excellent. We did not do distant dive trips [Blue Hole/ Lighthouse at extra cost]~ a 2.5-3 hr boat ride given our rougher than normal conditions. The land stuff was great- good rainy hike to waterfall and a great cave with Mayan artifacts. These were not easy- be in some condition for them. The Monkey River trip was a lot easier. The resort is spectacular. Our treehouse had great AC, coffee, private. Lots of sargassum on the beach, raked each morning. ALL staff are amazing- will stop what they are doing and introduce themselves and then give you a lecture on what they do. We spent 30 minutes going over compost. Lots of birds on the property and knowledgeable guides. Food included was better than good- lots of options and you could buy extras [like lobster, last night, really good!]. Wine list varied and good. Guests who shot lionfish had it 3 ways [grilled, fried and cerviche] and we tasted some and it was delightful. Didn't see a lot of lionfish on the dives [saw some] perhaps due to spearfishing? OK by us! The main desk is great- as our return flight changed times they rebooked us on Maya Air to a later flight without even asking!
