Comments We had been diving at Isla Marisol about 15 years ago. At that time, the diving was spectacular but the resort was in a sorry state. The bungalows were old and run down. But the worst thing was the food. We had a good time because for most of the week we were there, we were the only divers. so we had the boat to ourselves and the diving really was great. Very healthy reefs, lots of fish, critters, etc. We had no intention of going back and then my wife stumbled on a glowing review of the resort with particular attention to the food. We contacted some friends and the four of us went in May, with a particular goal of diving with whale sharks (which we had done once before in Belize from a different resort). The diving is very very good. The reef and fish are down a bit since our last visit but that is our experience throughout the Caribbean. We certainly had a good time. We are older and dove Nitrox. There was one day when they ran out of Nitrox but we weren't diving very deep so not really an issue. But the high point was the food. It is hard to describe just how good the food is there. Not only is it delicious, but every meal comes out from the kitchen looking like a piece of art! We took pictures of every meal, including breakfast. The chef is imaginative and has extensive experience. His father was a chef. So, if you like diving, but consider yourself a foodie, then go to Isla Marisol. We went to see whale sharks but they didn't show up. Can't win them all.
