Comments I stayed and dove with Ramon's 15 years ago and the operation and diving was great. Sad, but no more. The diving sites were the most boring reefs I have seen in my entire diving life. No color, few colorful tropical fish and all sites looked the same, even going out to Turneffe North (don't bother - certainly not worth the upcharge!) There were plenty of nurse sharks and a loggerhead turtle. (I did not go to the Blue Hole this time, but those that did were disappointed except for Lighthouse Reef dive which was their highlight of the long trip) The highlight of many dives was finding Lionfish for the DM to spear and feed to the sharks or moray. Many days were windy with 6' waves making boat entry interesting at the very least! We dove 3 dives per day and had the same Dive Master. We could not dive our own air and all had to come up together on what I consider short dives (sometimes I came up with 1/2 a tank of air! Ugh!) There was no attempt to separate experienced divers from newbies. The DM made little attempt to find things and seem mostly disinterested. He did move very very slowly - whether that is good or bad is a matter of preference.
The Resort was OK, very nice tropical setting with lush trees and vegetation. Becky's rooms were nice in all regards. We only ate breakfast at Ramon's and a few times my eggs and bacon came out stone cold! I was surprised how expensive restaurants have become in San Pedro.
For a convenient easy good routine dive trip from Phoenix AZ, I will continue to go to Cozumel on a regular basis (I have never been disappointed in over 20 years diving there) - and never to return to San Pedro Ambergris Caye Belize again...
