Comments Our first trip to Turneffe Island Resort was one of superlatives. Diving "The Elbow" several times (where the currents from either side of the large atoll mix) was a memorable experience.. I dubbed it the Land of the Giants. A Goliath Grouper that turned curiously to watch as I approached. Groups of large boxfish, midnight parrotfish and black grouper. I ascended to my safety stop one morning to find perhaps a hundred large permit swimming nearby. The dive masters Marcela and Marcel were excellent and helpful, and frequently laughing with us about something. They were great spotters. Pipefish and toadfish were a couple of my favorites. The reefs were the healthiest I've seen in the Caribbean. The corals were abundant and vibrant. Snorkeling - My wife, a former diver, raved about it. OMG was a recurring description. Saw lots of species, including colorful juveniles that she had never seen before, at shallow sites not far from the resort. Dove with dolphin one day. Meals - Fidel and the staff greeted everyone warmly and provided delicious freshly prepared meals. The family style dining encouraged meeting a bunch of really fine folks from all over the place with lots of stories to share. Spa - our couples massage was a relaxing end to one of our days. It was a great week. We look forward to returning.
