Comments We flew Delta SLC to IAH, spent the night, then United IAH to BZE. New Delta terminal in SLC is very nice, but a long walk to some gates. Lots of choices of retail and restaurants in the terminal. New Delta sky Club is very nice and spacious. Both train systems at IAH were running . We had to spend the night, to catch a morning flight to BZE. United Club lounge was very crowded with limited snacks and beverages. We left and found and uncrowded restaurant in the terminal.. Arrival at BZE was not bad. We arrived just before another aircraft, so lines weren’t long and everyone could wait indoors. The Health check went smoothly, but the Belize Travel Health App needs internet access. As a backup, take a screen shot of your completed QR code be for you get on the flight to BZE. They have remodeled the terminal since 2019, with a new larger baggage carousel and new arrival duty free shops. Customs went through each of our bags, with more detail than last time. We had nothing odd and no large camera rigs. No problem. We came in a night before the boat pickup. The Turneffe Island van met us on the curb and took us to the Raddison. They’ll provide an airport shuttle the day before and the day after your stay. The Radisson was nice. The main dinning room was closed, but the bar served three meals, indoors or outside. The Petit Cafe coffee bar was open as well, but the fitness center was closed. For the return home, the departure lounge has a few new shops, including a Belikan store serving draft beer. They have an impressive selection of their brands of beer t-shirts and souvenirs.

At the resort, everything was in top shape and they had obviously used the lack of guests during the summer to do all the normal maintenance. The resort was about half full, so things were peaceful. The resort is naturally set up for social distancing, with the lounge chairs and hammocks well spaced around the island. I think we were there the second week after their reopening. All the staff was very good about wearing masks, including all the dive staff. The food was even a little better than last trip. I love the Guava bars. The pool is now in between the bar and the main lodge. There is a new events room, where the pool used to be. Wifi coverage is little bit better throughout the resort, but still strongest need the main lodge.

Hurricane Zeta had passed to the north, a few days prior. We started the week with cloudy skies and a few showers. After Monday is was sunny and clear. Dive guides Marco and Harry took care of us all week. The marine life was about the same as my last trip report. No big changes. Lionfish, but no more than last trip. All our dives were enjoyable, the Elbow and adjacent sites had the most schooling fish. The one night dive is moored, but all the rest are drift dives with light to no current. Highlight for me , was a pod of dolphins that came down to our depth, to check us out. The Blue Hole and the Lighthouse Reef dives were worth the trip. The Blue Hole seemed to have better water clarity with fewer divers. We were the only boat there, until we were ready to leave. The Lighthouse reef sites have a different look that the Turneffe sites, and again had sharks and some attentive Nassau groupers. Big stuff, was a few sharks per dive, eagle rays, big sting rays.

I did two afternoon fly fishing trips. Caught a few bonefish with Eddy Jr. I enjoyed the first day so much, I talked my wife into joining us on the second trip. She had a great time and caught more fish than I did. The fishing was fun, but just walking the flats, along the edge of the mangroves was very enjoyable. Trigger fish and Permit schooling on the surface at the edge of the reef, bonefish moving across the flats, and Herons fishing in the shallower water.

For masks on the boats, I've taken to wearing Buffs. I started that a while back, when I noticed the guides and captains wearing that style for sun protection. they're not real masks, but seem like a decent compromise when wet.

Fun diving and a relaxing quiet vacation. We’d like to come back for more than a week some day.
