Comments Other reviews had warned us not to expect too much in the way of marine life so we not disappointed by the relatively sparse fish populations. Overall, the corals looked in great shape, the wrecks are interesting, and the protected fish populations are slowly rebounding. As with much of the Caribbean, lionfish are a problem in Bermuda. We were told that the bigger lionfish tend to favor the deeper water. On almost every dive, at least one divemaster would carry a spear, and almost always came back to the boat with at least one lionfish.
The Blue Waters Divers is a friendly and efficient dive operation and their boat was comfortable and reasonably spacious for our group. The crew was helpful getting divers in and out of the water and assisting with swapping tanks between dives. There was one divemaster as a guide for 3-4 divers; however, there was quite a spread of experience in their critter spotting abilities. Although afternoon and night dives were offered, most of our group were content with just the 2 morning dives.
The swells from the remnants of hurricane Dorian markedly reduced visibility early in the week; however, visibility was generally very good although on one dive at Garden Eels, visibility dropped to 15-20 ft and flashlights were necessary so that the group could keep in sight of each other and the dive guide.
The Pompano Beach Club was superb (but not inexpensive). Our bags were taken to our room upon arrival, and collected from our room at departure. Our ocean-view room was very comfortable, with a balcony large enough for a table, chairs, and 2 loungers. The bathroom was very spacious. The rooms were cleaned every day with a turndown service in the early evening. The resort has 2 restaurants each with its own kitchen, one restaurant is open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, the other is open for dinner only. Additionally, there is a cafe (open for lunch and afternoon snacks), a beach bar, a pool bar, and a lounge.
The resort staff were very helpful and vans shuttled us every morning to Blue Water Divers and picked us up after the mornings dives. The resort is a family-owned business and everyone pitches in to make the place comfortable for guests; Tom Lamb(the Managing Director and a grandson of the founder)frequently drove a shuttle van, and one evening we found him sweeping the entrance outside the lobby before guests started to arrive for dinner.
Bermuda is easy to get around with efficient and inexpensive bus and ferry services, and rentals for cars, scooters, and personal electric vehicles. It made for a week of relaxing, low-key diving, splendid accommodations and food, and plenty of things to do topside.
