Comments This was my fourth trip to Bonaire and things are changing there. There now is a $75 Bonaire Tourism Tax per person that can be paid in advance or upon arrival. This tax replaces the room tax and rental car tax. Bonaire has been impacted with the Stony Coral Tissue Loss Disease (SCTLD). Due to SCTLD the marine park foundation now requires divers to disinfect SCUBA gear daily and limit what dive sites can be dived at. Be sure to check the marine park foundation web site for the latest information. The dive sites at Washington Slagbaai National Park have been closed. The marine park foundation web site says the entire park is currently closed. There is a lot of development/building happening in Bonaire resulting in increased traffic. While at Bonaire there were multiple island-wide power outages. Twice we arrived at restaurants that we had made reservations for only to find out they had no power and would not be serving dinner that evening.

We used AB Car Rental and AB Dive. The company is very professional. If you book rental and dive together you receive a discount. The unlimited air package includes free NITROX. You drive to the dive shop, drop off your used cylinders, analyze your new cylinders and off you go in 5 minutes.

The shore diving was easy and relaxing as usual. Dive on your own schedule! The dive sites on the southern part of the island appeared to be in better heath with more variety and quantity of fish than the northern sites.
