Comments After more than 30 visits to Carib Inn since 1991, it has become a second home to us. When Bruce Bowker tragically passed away in 2020, regular visitors had some concerns if things at Carib would change. Thankfully, very little has changed, and only in the small ways that Bruce was constantly changing them.
Some rooms have new kitchen cabinets. Cupboards have more bowls and cooking tools. Our suite even had an immersion blender!
The dive operation is as always, Edward, Rishee, and Arturo filling the tanks with a smile. Both boats have new, attached ladders, and decking treatment. While our group did not use the boats, those who did seemed very pleased.
Two scheduled boat trips a day still leave promptly, and shore divers are in and out of the water out front literally at all hours. Watching the sun rise from the reef slope is breathtaking.
The Inn is now owned and operated by Bruce’s niece Lynne Culbreth. She will be a familiar face to many visitors, as she was often visiting during our many visits over the years. Bruce’s presence is missed for sure, but Lynne is doing a great job running things and keeping the feel of the inn like we have always known it.
One very nice evolution is the ability to book rooms online from the website.
The lack of diver traffic over the COVID lockdowns seems to have allowed corals on the house reef to rejuvenate, and the reef was looking very healthy. My first two days of diving this site provided sightings of a frog fish, mantis shrimp, turtle, and coronet fish. It just got more interesting from there.
Sadly, Bruce is not the only person to have passed since our last visit. Housekeeper Emmy sadly was taken by cancer this summer. Her infectious smile was always a highlight for us. She had been at Carib Inn since she was a teenager herself, and is a greatly missed part of the Bonaire family.

Carib Inn remains our home away from home on Bonaire. We can’t wait to return.
