Comments I went to Bonaire on a trip with Kids Sea Camp with my son and his family. This was our fourth trip with KSC. My two grandsons have been learning to dive with KSC for the past few years. Their trips are always great, and I know they get special attention from the resorts that they use, so I can only comment on Buddy Dive from that perspective. In general, the dive operation was really good, but it is not a concierge-type operation. The kids, who have their own boat, had great dive masters and instructors. The adults dive on a separate boat. One of our dive masters was not very good. He was hard to understand, mostly joked around in his briefings instead of giving actual information, and didn’t bother to point out interesting critters. However, the other two dive masters on the adult boat were excellent, so we just made sure to stick with one of them.

In general my family prefers Pacific diving, so I was concerned that they wouldn’t really like the diving in Bonaire. There’s definitely not much big stuff to see, but there’s loads of interesting smaller critters, and we DID see the biggest lone barracuda any of us had ever seen! And, of course, the tarpon. But I was extremely impressed with the condition of the coral in Bonaire. They have done a terrific job with their marine park. We did a little shore diving but not much, since the KSC dives were all boat dives. The calm conditions in Bonaire made it a perfect place for my two grandsons (15 and 12) to get their advanced certifications. So the diving was a big success.

We stayed in a 3-bedroom, 2-story condo that was nice but not luxurious. Very basic but clean and a good set-up for 5 people. The food was good but got kind of repetitive. We all got tired of the same lunch menu. At dinner they would have a couple of different main course options each night, but the other buffet entrees and sides and desserts were pretty much the same each night. We did eat in Buddy Dive’s more upscale restaurant, Ingridients, one night, and it was excellent.

Overall, this trip was a big success for my family. We had a great time.
