This was my 7th trip to Bonaire, and my first and last visit to Captain Don's. It seems to survive based on a reputation from decades ago. The rooms were clean; however the mattresses were old and thin, only two threadbare towels in the bathroom (no wash cloths or hand towels), room service was modest at best. Overall the room felt dated. Breakfast was ok. Lunch and dinner were not worth the expense, so I went to the grocery store for lunch stuff, and roamed the island for dinner. To be fair, I would have wandered for dinner no matter what because Bonaire has so much to offer. The dive operation was mediocre, especially for Bonaire. Boat crews and guides were generally good. There were no NITROX logs, and the boats didn't have testers, you had to ask for one that stayed at the dock. No defog available on the boats, which seemed odd for a "top" shop in Bonaire. The vibe at the shop itself was a consistent "meh." Locker space was good, but rinse tanks were not labeled (regs, wetsuits, etc.). Bonaire is magical place, and I will return to old haunts on my next visit. |
