Comments This was our 13th trip to Divi Flamingo & it remains a favorite. Our dive shop, Wateree Dive Center in Columbia, SC, brought about 22 divers for a New Year's trip to Bonaire. We flew Insel Air out of Charlotte, leaving an hour late, changing planes in Curaçao, the going over to Bonaire, arriving about 10:00 pm. It would be nice going directly to Bonaire, but, oh, well.
The rooms are adequate for divers, & are clean & generally good overall. The downstairs rooms had an occasional whiff of sewage, but not too much of a problem.
The food is good, & the morning buffet is quite good, especially the omelettes made to order. The staff is extremely nice, Diana & Marie Jeanine especially standing out.
The dive operation is excellent, & very environmentally savvy. The boats are good, with oranges after the first dive, & plenty of water. Our dive guides, Alvin & Laurel are superb & look out F&O all types of critters.
The viz was fair & the water temp 79-80 degrees. This was 2 degrees cooler than the same time here 6 years ago. The corals look in good shape, but we saw more lionfish than when we were here 6 months ago. Overall, the fishlife was really good. However, we saw no turtles except one on the surface. Only 2 sea horses were seen this week.
We ate at Capriccio's, Wil's Tropical Grill, It Rains Fishes, & At Sea & all were excellent.
Our flight left at 7:45 am, changing planes again in Curaçao, then back to Charlotte by 2:00 pm.
This is a consistently excellent dive destination, especially for new divers & experiences also. We will definitely return.
