Comments Our dive group from Wateree Dive Center in Columbia, SC returned for another week at Bonaire, one of our favorite dive locales. My wife & I have about 20 times or so & continue to return.
We flew from Columbia, SC, changing planes in Atlanta & then to Bonaire (4 hours) via Delta. The hotel is convenient &there is really good shore diving in front of the hotel.
The boats are fine with excellent dive crew. Rofino & Ebby were our dive, asters & Alvin & several others on the other Wateree boat.
The reefs looked pretty good & we saw only 3 lion fish all week as they try to control them. We saw one ray, but a good many turtles. There were more sea horses found this trip than any we have been on. We saw 7 juvenile trunfish in 1 crevice which was awesome. There were a lot of juveniles present. The dive operation is " A plus"!
There are a new Myers of good local restaurants close by. We ate breakfast at the hotel, then went out at night. We enjoyed Capriccio's. It Rains Fishes, Patagonia, Divers Den, Cuba Compagnie, & for dessert, Gino's Gelato. Wonderful!
Divi Flamingo has many good staff members & all were pleasant & helpful to us. Now, the problem is in the 700 series of rooms which are time shares. We were in 704 & it was damp, dark, without a working stovetop, occasionally working microwave & & just plain old & out of date. The local staff does about the best they can with what they have, but the upper level management & owners need to improve those rooms or their business will drop precipitously. There has been talk of upgrading those rooms, but so far no action. Some even asked if they could dive with Divi & stay somewhere else. We'll see what happens, but the 700 series of rooms need a LOT of work.
