Comments I was intrigued to the get on the new Cayman Aggressor V. The online pictures looked like a roomy and well-built ship. I wasn’t disappointed. There was lots of room on the boat and the layout was very good.
I flew direct from Atlanta and was met outside customs by Juan Carlos from the Aggressor. Once all the divers from the incoming flights landed, we boarded the taxi to the boat. We arrived before boarding time, so the crew took our bags onboard and me and my new friends went across the street to the sports bar for drinks and food.
The boarding was smooth and welcoming with the crew helping everyone get setup in the dive station of choice. Large dive deck with lots of room. Once setup they gave us a tour of the room and showed us how everything worked. I had cabin 1 to myself. It would be tight for two people but perfect for me. The shower and bathroom were larger compared to other liveaboards. The AC was set to its lowest setting 55. It kept the room at about 68 when I wasn’t in it. My body heat would bring it to 72. Not cool enough in my opinion.
The food was great and the crew work very hard to meet every request. They were friendly and attentive. The meals were plate service for breakfast and dinner. Lunch was served buffet style. There was plenty of drinks of all kinds.
The diving was also very good. The visibility was challenged a couple of dives, but for the most part we had easy, comfortable dives on some of the best walls in the world. We had very good weather and spent the bulk of the trip on Little Cayman. One evening we cruised over to Cayman Brac and did the night dive and the following morning dive on the Russian Destroyer. I have done this trip twice before on the Cayman Aggressor 4 and have only been able to dive one day on Little Cayman and never on Brac until this trip. All the diving is done giant stride from the mother ship. Dive masters were always in the water. One would be photo and video taker and the other leading the group if wanted to follow them. Entry and exit were very easy. The crew helped those that needed it with gear carry and removal on exit. Fresh water warm showers on the dive deck with shampoo and conditioner provided. Camera and gear rinse buckets were well maintained.
I read others with complaints about the noise on the boat, specifically the auto-pilot. I expected to hear a whirring sound or something similar. It isn’t like that at all. It is loud banging. It sounds like a metal pole being drug quickly back and forth through a metal pipe. Very obnoxious but it only was used on crossings.
Overall the trip was great. Great crew, great boat and great diving.
