Comments We were very happy to return to Cayman Brac after the COVID restrictions. We have been there many times before and consider it to be the best shore diving in the caribbean. In the past, we have rented a VRBO / Home Away house. On our return to Cayman Brac, we wanted something different. Since the Alexander Hotel had recently reopened, we wanted to try that. After a few communications with the hotel owner and manager, we were ready to give it a go.

The hotel is very nicely laid out. Each room has a small kitchenette with microwave, refrigerator, and oven / stove. The rooms surround the pool. We appreciated the privacy with our dive shop trip group of eight. We did not have that when we rented the other facilities.

Of particular interest to many will be the fantastic restaurant and head chef, Errol. We were able to obtain a $25 per day breakfast and dinner meal plan. The dinners were something that you would expect at a high end restaurant. There were multiple choices on the meal plan and the food was just incredibly prepared and presented. I have an interview with the chef on our shop youtube channel. That was way better than we had expected. Lunch was not covered in our meal plan.

We mostly ate lunch while we were out diving. We always try to eat at Barry's Golden Jerk. If you want jerk chicken or pork on days that he is not open, you can still call him up and get food. We wish we had known that on all our previous trips. We also ate lunch frequently at PoPo Jebs at the airport and at the Island Grill.

For diving, we used the Brac Scuba Shack on this trip and on several trips in the past. As before, we were very happy with their service. For those who do not know, the Cayman Brac Beach Resort will no longer support divers who do not stay with them. That is a recent development as we have used them in the past while not staying at the resort.

We mostly shore dove, but did go to Little Cayman on one two tank boat trip. That was the first time in many trips that I was actually able to visit Randy's Gazebo. The MV Tibbets, Scott's dock, Handcuff Reef, Radar Reef / Atlantis, Buccaneer Reef, and all the other sites are still great diving. The underwater topography of Cayman Brac is simply stunning and is my favorite place to dive in the western hemisphere.

One diving aspect that we did not expect involved the Alexander Hotel. We were apparently one of the groups to first use the hotel as a diving base. The staff at the hotel were extremely accommodating to our special diving needs. By the time we left, there were rinse tanks, racks, and tubs for our diving gear. They basically went from 0 to 60 helping make our after diving activities easier.

We did have one negative experience on the island. I carelessly bottomed out the minivan at Buccaneer's Reef. Fortunately, the 4D's car rental company came out quickly and ungrounded us. Watch where you park at some of the dive sites.

In summary, we were extremely pleased by the whole Alexander Hotel experience, the Brac Scuba Shack, and 4 Ds and will be happy to go again next year.
