Comments My wife and I had taken two previous dive trips to Little Cayman which we thoroughly enjoyed. We decided to stay and dive on Grand Cayman this trip.
We chose Plantana Condominiums on the quiet end of Seven Mile Beach. It is pricy, but you get what you pay for - excellent, quiet accommodations, lovely grounds, at the quiet end of the beach, away from the big hotels.
Restaurants are very expensive on the island. Some people on vacation don't want to cook. However we enjoy doing some relaxed cooking, along with trying a few restaurants. The kitchens at Plantana have everything you need and BBQ grills are available. As full a variety of groceries as you'd find in the US are available, but are also expensive. However groceries are a lot less expensive than the restaurant food. Other than our dive gear we pack very light, so we had room to bring a few food staples and snacks from home. Just don't bring or declare any fresh foods on custom forms. Otherwise you can bring anything you want.
I chose Indigo Divers from reading the Undercurrent reviews, particularly because we prefer diving with 6 or less divers and were impressed by reviews of Indigo. I feel that we've been fortunate to have had some excellent experiences with small dive operators previously, but Chris and Kate of Indigo are as good as it gets. Every aspect of diving with them met and more often exceeded expectations. Indigo's boat is probably the nicest and most comfortable dive boat I've been on. Not a large boat, but plush and very comfortable for their maximum of 6 divers.
From our earliest communication with Indigo to the conclusion of our diving, all aspects of our experience with Indigo were professional, efficient, first class and simply fun. Once Chris and Kate are fully comfortable and confident regarding your diving skills, you are free to dive your own profile, while just being respectful of the broad outlines of the dive plan. We look forward to diving with Indigo again as soon as we can make it back to Grand Cayman.
