Comments Our group of 26 divers from Wateree Dive Center in Columbia, SC returned to LCBR for another week of diving, a regular occurrence for 25 years. Getting there was no problem, but getting home is another story. The rooms are very nice, with 2 queen beds in ours, a mini fridge & was well appointed. The service staff is excellent in every respect. The food was not up to their usual standard the first part of the week, but improved significantly the latter half of the week. There is too much congestion in the buffet area with a poor flow plan. The staff was excellent to say the least.
The bar is fun, with very good bartenders & a great meeting place. Drinks are in CI so don’t be surprised by the bill at the end of the week. There is a nice pool near the bar, but the water was very warm.
The dive operation is superb. Simon & Karolina were professional with great senses of humor, The boats are all Newton 46’s & well appointed. The viz was usually a 100 feet plus on the walls, about 60’ on the shallow reefs. There is some bleaching ( Bus Stop) but the fish life was very good. The water temp was 86-87 degrees F & little current.
We sent a bag back to Grand Cayman the afternoon prior to departure as requested by Cayman Air per the usual plan. We were bumped to a later flight (?) to GC, leaving at 11:55 am with a 1:40 departure on Delta to Atlanta. I saw our remaining dive bag on a cart at the LC “airport” & the rep said “ another plane will be here in 20’ to get these other bags (9-10) so you’ll have plenty of time to make your flight”. WRONG!! It was nearly 1:15 & the flight was closed so we missed connections to Atlanta & Columbia, SC. Delta was fine, but the total incompetence of Cayman Air on LC was unbelievable! There was no priority for baggage to GC & no consideration to flight schedules. This preventable fiasco makes me have to rethink going to LCBR if this is something to face again. I’ve emailed them, but they can’t control anything with Cayman Air.. It was a great week of diving but dealing with Cayman Air’s baggage incompetence really put a damper on the week.

If this is the first time you've run into this problem in 25 years you've had a good run of luck, and I'm surprised you've never heard of CA issues before. I also travel to LC and have learned 1) don't send bags early and 2) leave at least 4 hours leeway between flights to GC and connection. It’s just the way it is. Thankfully now there’s AC and WiFi at the GC airport. As for losing luggage on the way home - who cares, you're not missing any diving, and they'll deliver your bag eventually by UPS/FedEx.

Hey! Never said I hadn’t had a problem with CA before, but this was the most frustrating. I looked at one of my first reports in 2003 or 2004 & mentioned it then. Love the diving & LCBR! Almost like this is the “price we pay” to enjoy diving. Take care & good diving!
