Comments We've been going to Grand Cayman since 1988 and have seen major changes both above and below water. This trip we stayed at LaCovia condos which we've always enjoyed. The condo was great but they are shutting the place down to rebuild and it will be closed for a couple years. We did our diving with Wall to Wall. Wall to Wall is a smaller dive operation with personal service. We have been diving with Wall to Wall many times over the years and have always had good service. But, we did have some issues this time. The operation is below the Lobster Pot restaurant along with a few other dive shops that share the same space. When we checked in nobody seemed to know what to do. Even though there were many people behind the desk they all worked for one of the other dive shops. Nobody seemed able or willing to help us check in. Once we finally got that taken care of we were set to dive. We had one dive guide for most of the week; Sego (sp) who was great. She was very helpful on the boat and in the water with a couple newer divers in our group. Our last day we had a different dive guide who was more interested in Sego than in helping us. Very disappointing. I would still dive with Wall to Wall, but they need to get their act together. I would hate to see them lose touch with who they are. I heard the owner now was involved with a few different dive shops and maybe wasn't totally on top of Wall to Wall. I'm not sure about that though.

The diving in Grand Cayman is still good. It used to be great but that was many years ago. There are still some wonderful sites around the island. The coral is typical Caribbean with some very good patches and some areas beat up. There was a little red algae on some of the reef but not too much. As years have gone on I'm not seeing as many small critters but there are still enough to make things interesting. Fish life on some reefs was incredible while others were just OK.

I still enjoy diving on Grand Cayman. There are many good dive sites on all sides of the island which is great so you can dive no matter which direction the winds are coming from. Grand Cayman is still very good diving for beginning and less experienced divers. But even for experienced divers you can have a lot of fun. The diving is not what it once was, but where is it. We will continue to go to Grand Cayman. The island is safe, the food is good, the people are friendly, and the diving is still pretty good. For much better diving go to Little Cayman. Just be aware there's not much to do on the island except dive and relax. But, what a great island.
