Comments The tiny island of Providencia belongs to Columbia, although it is accessible from Panama City via San Andres island. There were only two of us at Sirius resort all week. The resort is nice, clean, and small, but only breakfast is served: a monotonous serving of scrambled eggs, bread, jam, juice and coffee, and seconds only in coffee. We had to hike nearly a mile to find a decent restaurant ("Martin's Place, which is excellent), or use the small motel restaurant next door on the beach. A small store a half mile away is available for snacks and beer. The resort manager speaks very little English and some knowledge of Spanish is useful. The rooms are large and nicely furnished (TV, air conditioner, safe), but there is no hot water. Phone communication was erratic at best. The dive operation is primitive and it needs some work. One dive was cancelled due to insufficent gasoline for the two small boats, one of which disappeared later in the week (stolen or sunk)! Although it rained every day, once hard enough to cancel an entire day of diving, the reefs are in excellent condition with superb marine life. With some work and planning, Sirius could become an excellent dive resort, but, at present, it falls short.
