Comments We were originally scheduled to be on the Avalon II, but were on the brand new Avalon III. There was a group of 14 from Uruguay, a couple from Washington, a couple from the Netherlands and we 3 singles. We got individual cabins when we boarded as there was so much extra room. Meals were buffet style, but the individual food needs of guests were always catered to. Diving was from two individual smaller boats with our group of 7 with our own guide. We never went to the same site with both groups. Ample dive deck, 2 camera tables, separate rinse tanks. My buddy lost her dive bag on the way so had no gear other than her mask. The boat outfitted her for free. I wouldn't go again in Aug/Sept. The water was too warm and the visibility wasn't as good as a previous May trip. We had a couple of spectacular storms and, were a bit concerned that Dorian would close Miami airport. The guide was baiting the sharks for the professional photographer from the Netherlands who was in our group and, I'm not a fan of baiting sharks. We also got lots of Goliath grouper and other grouper though. Made for some exciting diving. Night diving was curtailed by the weather - I think there was only one completed.
