Overall, the diving was the best in the Caribbean, mainly because we had close and frequent encounters with so many sharks and groupers, creating great photo opportunities. Some of the groupers were unbelievably friendly. According to our dive master, they are used to be fed lionfish by divers. A highlight of the week was snorkeling with a crocodile. We have crocs in our backyard lake and other nearby nature parks in Florida, but never had a chance to photograph them underwater. The boat was new, clean, and spacious. Our cabin, a balcony suite, was probably the best cabin we’ve ever had on our 20+ liveaboard trips. It had a large bathroom and ample storage space. The food was very good, but (fresh) vegetable/fruit selection was lacking. Service and attitude of the crew were excellent, as in the case of most liveaboards. During the entire week, while at sea, we had no cellphone or internet. No outside news. It was refreshing. I have strong feelings that this liveaboard operation may not last long, considering its cost of over $1,100 per night for a couple (excluding park fees of $290 pp), which is expensive for a Caribbean liveaboard, and possible tighter trade embargos on Cuba by the Trump administration. The fact that we only had 7 guests (of the 24-diver capacity) during the week may already be an indication. Airport pickup arrangement could be improved. |
