Comments We used to go to Habitat Curacao until they went downhill so badly. For this trip, we had with us our niece who had completed her classroom work and needed to do her checkout dives, so we were looking for a location in Curacao that had the same ease of shore diving as Habitat had with a decent reef to keep us occupied as well. We found all of that and more with DiveVersity at the Blue Bay Resort. The resort itself was great. We stayed in a 2 bedroom oceanfront condo overlooking the beach and the dive shop. The condo was huge, with a fully equipped kitchen and a lovely veranda. The condos are more expensive in the winter, but in the summer, they are a great deal for the money. Also, the complex feels like it completely away from everything, but it's only 15 minutes from the airport, 5 minutes from the main supermarket on the island, and about 15 minutes from downtown.

Aside from the great accommodations, the dive op was fantastic. They have a small shop, a tank room, big rinse tanks, a rack and hangars outside in the wind to temporarily hang your stuff and a locked gear room where we left our gear overnight. Once they assessed our skill level, they left my husband and I alone to dive whenever and however we wanted, but with our niece they were wonderful, very attentive, calm, and helpful. They even got our other niece, who'd sworn she wouldn't dive, to do Discover Scuba, and she did great. Over the course of the week, we spent a lot of time hanging out with them and watched them interact with other customers. They were always friendly and helpful to everyone who came by, no matter whether they were just there to do a dive or two, or if they were diving for a couple of days. The resort has a lovely beach, one of the nicest in Curacao with a great restaurant and snack bar. There is a breakwater forming a lagoon for shore entries and it stays very calm, no matter how windy it got outside of the barrier, so it was very easy for our niece to get in and out of the water. The diving itself was typical for Curacao with a nice reef, lots of fish and the only wall on the island about 10-15 minutes swim away. They don't get much diving pressure because the resort isn't known as a dive resort, so the reef is in good shape and is never crowded. The dive op also has boat dives a couple of days a week, but we didn't go on any since we were concentrating on getting our niece comfortable in the water. This was our 6th trip to Curacao and I would highly recommend the Blue Bay resort and DiveVersity.

UW Photo Comments This is mainly a shore diving location without dedicated photography facilities. When we used the big camera, they set up a special bucket for us, but didn't normally have one out. They don't get that many photographers.
