Comments Good diving. Magnificent hard and soft coral and lots of small fish, eels and turtles. No medium to large fish. I've never seen large coral formations like this. Like an underwater Hobbit land!
The dive site right off of the dock is convenient and good for several dives, including night dives.
The dive shop is at the Kura Hulanda resort so it was very convenient. Though we didn't need it, there isn't a lot of assistance offered by the dive team, either above or below the water. They were capable but that's about it. Equipment storage and access to tanks for shore diving was very good, as were the dive boats. Never too many divers on board--usually 5 to 10.
The resort was nice but has seen better days. Friends we made on the flight there who have a time share there said it's been through bankruptcy several times. Our apartment was spacious and clean, but we had to call the front desk to have the wifi connected (that took two days) and deliver cooking utensils that should have already been there. We did not eat there, but lunches at the beach bistro were pretty good.
Having a rental car is necessary for access to off-site restaurants, shore diving (other than at the resort) and other activities. Though the roads aren't well marked, it's fairly easy to find your way around once you get acclimated.
I would not recommend this as a destination for non-divers. It's a 45 minute drive to the only city (Willemstad) which was just OK.
Thought Bonaire offered equivalent diving (other than the corals) and accommodations at a more competitive price.
