Comments To maximize our 7 day April, 2006 trip to Brezes Curacao, we wanted to do our check out dives bright and early the morning of the 2nd day of our trip. We promptly arrived at the counter at 7am to fill out the paperwork. 4 employees were deep in conversation about nothing work related. We waiting over 5 minutes and had to interrupt them from their conversation, to get service. Ocean Encounters told us that the mandatory checkout dives were only done in the afternoon. My partner and I came back promptly after lunch and were sadly informed that the checkout dives and shore diving had been cancelled because of some surging currents in the channel. After complaining that no one contacted me about the cancellation; we were "accommodated" by being put on the afternoon 1 tank boat dive. I concluded that the mandatory check out dive is much more voluntary.

Afternoon boat trips are usually exclusively to The Tugboat because of the snorkelers. This is fine but I was not informed prior to booking 5 afternoon boat dives. The advertising gives a false impression that the divers help make the decision. I did not want to dive the same site 5 days in a row. I was not reimbursed for my full prepaid deposit. The shore diving is fine if you don't mind the tall wooden ladder exit. The surge wasn't bad on the days we shore dove. Tanks weren't all filled up to 3000psi. My partner dove the Superior Producer. This is advertised as one of the best dives on the island. Max dive time 20 minutes and 3 divers got caught in the surging current and had to be retrieved off another buoy marker. Again, prior knowledge would have been helpful.

We'll dive Curacao again, but not with Ocean Encounters. The dive shop staff was not friendly or helpful. We told them and they don't care.
