Comments We dove from a catamaran docked at La Romana. There was over 100 people on board and about 50 divers. We dove in groups of 4-6 people with a dive guide for each group. I was a little worried with the amount of divers but it went off smoothly. We anchored in 15 feet so snorkelers could swim around the boat. the water was choppy so a little hard to snorkel but the coral was great and a lot of fish. We entered the water and with a short swim was a wall. We dropped to 90 feet which means most coral and fish were above us. The coral was healthy and I was pleasantly surprised by how good it was. We stayed at depth for a short time and then hung out at 60 feet. All the divers were respectful of the coral and I didn't see anyone doing anything stupid. The second dive was 50 feet and a sand bottom with coral growths on the bottom. Lots of critters and when someone saw something we all kind of headed to look. Very enjoyable.
Then we went to Isla Catalina to a beach where there was food-excellent and shore snorkeling. My wife and our family all snorkeled after lunch. There was stuff to see and it was fun-not like snorkeling Bonaire. I know DR is not a dive destination but if you are there it is a worthwhile stop.
