Comments This review serves as an update to the two other recent reviews from Vicki Singly and Kristin Leighton. I won’t repeat anything they said as we totally agree. Our trip was this last April. As has been said before weather can play a big role in diving conditions and our trip was no exception. Much has been said about the warm hospitality the staff of this resort provides. All true! The accommodations were excellent and very comfortable and we stayed in Bure 1. We received an upgraded to this Bure since this was our 30th anniversary. If you can get one of these it would only add to a superb vacation location. Water is always available in the dining area. Shower water pressure is only an issue after the dive boats return. As said, the food was fabulous and vegetarian options were always available for every meal.
While the other recent reviews were spot on regarding the resort this is after all, a dive review. The dive staff is very warm and accommodating and very eager to help. You will have to present your certification card upon arrival to help gauge your abilities. It rained every day we were at the resort and Cyclone Zena paid us a very brief visit. The resort was well prepared to deal with it. Diving consists of two tank boat dives each day starting at 0800. The boats generally return in time for lunch at one. There is unlimited diving on the house reef both during the day and night. Boat night dives require a minimum of six divers. We never got to that threshold so I can’t comment on this aspect of this resorts diving. The resort has three dive boats; Tradition, C-Harley and Bull Shark. The Bull Shark was down for engine trouble for four of our seven days. The heads on all three boats are very marginal and more suited for men than women. Air was also a problem on one day as their compressor was down and delayed our start. Nitrox 31-32% is always available for an extra fee. I would strongly advise the use of Nitrox on the Shark Dive. Bottom times are 65 feet for 25 minutes on both dives. Conservative computers may have issues with this dive profile without Nitrox. Because of boat, compressor and weather issues all but one of our two tank boat dives were delayed, but a late lunch was always available. Currents were very strong on our visit and were more suited to Advanced Divers than new divers. The dive masters stayed very close to new divers for support. The shark dive took place at their new shark venue site Amphitheater. Because of the turbidity caused by the hundreds of fish visibility was limited. On our dive we were excited to see four Tiger Sharks and one Bull Shark. Hand feeding stopped two years ago, but it was exciting.
Everyone tried very hard to make our dive vacation a success and I firmly feel they met their goal. We would definitely go back.
