Comments The biggest disappointment for me was the lack of soft corals that Fiji is so known for. Apparently there are some but way farther out. Weather was not good for most of the week I was there. We had rain 4 out of 7 days and the visibility was poor due to rougher seas. I think the diving would have been more enjoyable with clear water. There were some dives with current. I've got a few years on me; so swimming against current is not easy. One dive I had to abort the dive at 12 feet when I realized that the current was so strong, I couldn't get to the down line. 2 other divers also aborted. The rest of the boat was able to get down but said it was rough and they chewed up a lot of air. Beqa has it's own shark dive and it is WOW. On one dive we had 8 tiger sharks and 24 bulls, plus reef etc. The tigers were amazing. It is a thrill, but I never felt frightened, just aware and cautious. The dive guides (there were 8 in the water with us) had long metal poles that they use to keep the sharks away from the people, that are kneeling behind a 3 foot wall. The dive is well planned, and you ascend on lines to do safety stops while dive masters continue to feed and distract the shark. A real must do! There is a plenitude of different species of fish and we saw some large schools. The resort staff was wonderful, the entertainment was great to include fire walkers, fire dancers, kava ceremonies, local village tour, children doing the cultural dances, singing, etc. Food menu was varied. You picked your meals each morning and were given 2-3 choices. I would have liked to see more beef options. Fish, vegetable, chicken were the mainstay. Last night was a Fijian buffet feast. The Spa was wonderful and my husband and I enjoyed a message and a foot message as well. The rooms were lovely and spacious with our own plunge pool, large yard, hammock and deck with padded furniture. It was a good time, we met so many nice people from around the world and we made the best of the weather. The staff was also very responsive if there was something you needed. I wore a 5 mil and was fine all week. Most others were in 3 mils and some were chilly and some ok.If you get cold easily, go thicker.
