Comments I had two dive masters-the first was a "follow me" type and the second was more accommodating about finding stuff. I just want a dive master to lead the way and be handy if something goes wrong. The dive boat is covered and large enough so you are not crowded. You take a small boat out to the dive boat, where your equipment is set up. Put weights in your BC and de-fogger on your mask and finish pulling up your wet suit. It will take 5-10 minutes to reach Rainbow Reef, suit up, step off the back of the boat and have some fun.
Our dive masters would check the tide and go to sites where the current was mild and you could relax and get some pictures. Out of 6 days of diving there was only one day where the current was strong and really the current was not all that strong. They would set a depth and time for each dive, but would not get excited if you happened to go a little deeper. Although, they did record your depth and time after each dive. I thought the dive operations were OK.
The coral is fantastic and if you go, do not miss the White Wall. We saw several sharks, a school of barracuda, one huge grouper (5-6 feet) and another big fish that was too far out to get a good look. There were all kinds of fish on all of the dives-3 types of anemonefish, 3 types of bannerfish, Titan and Clown triggerfish and all kinds of butterflyfish. You can fill the card in your camera real quick. I liked the dive people enough to leave something in the Christmas Fund.
One day they took my wife over to the island in front of the resort snorkeling and she was thrilled. They did not charge for this trip, which I thought was pretty nice.
You have a continental breakfast which includes homemade muffins. Skip the cereal and go for the muffins, they are great. For lunch and dinner you have two items to choose from and most of the time the food was good. Except, one night we had a cold fish chowder that was so bad even the one eyed dog would not eat it. The fish and chips and grilled fish were outstanding.
The rooms have a good bed, nice shower, coffee maker, overhead fan, A/C and TV set. Although, you do not get any cable only DVDs. Sitting on the patio in the morning with a cup of coffee watching the tide come in is a fine way to start the day.
I had a great time and will go back to Garden Island Resort in the future.
