Comments A search revealed that the Bligh Water offered some of the best diving in Fiji. Not wanting to pay the high cost of staying at the Volivoli resort, it took some time to find an alternative. After discovering the Dua Dua Resort, a reasonably priced ocean front resort, the next objective was to identify who we were going to dive with. Dua Dua suggested Gold Ring Divers based on good reviews from their guests.

From first contact with the owner, Joji, through Facebook, to picking up our rinsed & dried dive gear at the end of our diving, the service was exceptional. My husband & I have over 1,000 dives each & have extensively travelled to many dive sites throughout the world. Safety & service are absolutely critical & we don’t dive with just anyone.

The dive boat itself was small with an overhead canopy. The dive sites were typically 25 minutes away. The corals were consistently the most beautiful we had ever seen, although there was not as much marine life as expected.

We completed 8 dives each with Gold Ring Divers over the course of 3 days. From day 1 we were told we would be treated like family (who is more precious after all?) & they lived up to their promise. Their operation is small & personable with the 2 of us being the only divers the first 2 days & were joined by another couple our last day. Before leaving for the 1st site we were given a briefing about the boat itself, including where life jackets & oxygen were stowed, & method of entry & exit from the water. Each dive was proceeded by a briefing including topography, presence of current, critters to watch out for, depth, & length of dive. Snacks & fresh water were provided. The atmosphere was relaxed, comfortable, & safe.

Now here’s the unique part, how we were treated as family. Instead of staying at a resort, there was an option to stay at Joji’s home. Not knowing him, I was not comfortable taking him up on this. Now I wish I had! The couple that joined us on our last day did so & stated that it was the best way to truly experience the culture of the local people. We did, however, accept the offer to join Joji & his family for dinner. Imagine the surprise & honour we felt when we arrived & were introduced to the village chief & formally welcomed to Fiji during a kava ceremony. What a memorable experience! As if that wasn’t enough, Joji’s wife is an excellent cook & the meal was wonderful. For a nominal amount she even made delicious lunches for us. We enjoyed the sense of community, as various members of their family & village came & went within Joji’s home. It was a privilege to experience the genuine hospitality & warmth of the Fijian people.

If we ever go back, we would absolutely choose Gold Ring Divers again.

We were very pleased with our accommodations at Dua Dua. Although not all-inclusive, the restaurant offered a variety of tasty food at a reasonable cost. The rooms were well appointed, clean, & oceanfront. The service was efficient & friendly. Our only disappointment was only instant coffee was available.

It was only a short 10 minute drive to get from the resort to the dive boat
