Comments This was my seventh cruise on the Naia, my favorite liveaboard. While the diving is great and boat facilities very good, what really makes the Naia shine for me is the crew of native Fijians. They are all very friendly, helpful and hard working. The owner, Rob Barrel, was aboard training new cruise directors Joshua and Amanda. This left some of the briefings a little uneven.

A typhoon went through Fiji last spring and damaged the coral in some shallow sites. Yet six months later, there is already visible regrowth and hope that in a couple of years most of these pinnacle tops and shallow coral gardens will have complete coverage. No worry, there are still plenty of places that look great now.

As most of the guests were experienced divers who had been on the Naia before, we did some exploratory dives in places the boat had never been before, which was interesting. Some sites they may go back to; others not. We also had two novices along, who mostly were well taken care of in the water. However on one particularly difficult high current dive, a dive master abandoned one beginning diver to follow a shark, leaving other guests to help the novice deal with the current.

UW Photo Comments Excellent camera room just off the dive deck with plenty of work space and charging stations. Two rinse tanks just for cameras. Crew handle your camera between the ready area and the skiffs and are very careful and know what they are doing. Most dives have both wide angle and macro possibilities, making the setup decision difficult.
