Comments Everyone was genuinely going out of their way to make our trip the best trip we have ever been on, not just because it was their job, they wanted to. The first day was a 5 minute boat trip to the Manta Ray station, sure enough one was there and we swam with him for about an hour. The trip just got better and better from there on. The Great Astrolabe reef is great in everyway, on some dives I looked to find a piece of dead coral and could not find a single piece. Sea snakes, sharks just swimming by often, manta rays, every fish you could want to see was there. The house reef was just as good. The food was so good it would rate well in a Santa Barbara restaurant. All of this inspite of cyclone Mona, it was forcast to just about hit Ono island head on but at the last momment veered off and headed out towards Tonga. The resort completely shut down in preperation, took down the solar panels, stashed the boats, etc. They were still putting things back together when we showed up, so we did have some little problems with water for a couple of days. The reefs made up for any little inconveniences that we had. It is the rainy season there so it rained most nights but the sun always came out each day. GO THERE, we am going back.

UW Photo Comments a very small resort with small boats, there is room for improvement but they are hiring an instructor to run the dive program on site and I imagine improvements will be made. I chatted with the owner about a few things that could be better and she was receptive to my suggestions.

Thanks for taking the time to give a report. A couple of questions: It looks like the boat diving is 2 tanks per day. Is there also a house reef that you can dive in order to get 3 or 4 dives a day? Also, sounds like the food was very good. Was it mostly Fijian food? THX

it looks like most of my review got dropped or deleted. Yes the house reef is very good. I posted 5 stars for every category, fish, reef, coral, everything. The only thing that was missing was dunk tanks on the boats for camera gear, but the boats are very small. That was the only hardship and since we were in paradise I could over look that.

SOunds great thanks. I was wondering if it is feasible as a solo female diver, especially the accomodation. I live in Australia now but have run a dive shop in the Caribbean for numerous years, and have no dive partner for this trip, end of May beginning of June.

They now have two instructors on staff running the dive program and just opened a new dive shop and added a slightly larger dive boat. We did not dive the house reef, but it is a short swim offshore. The food was excellent and was mostly Fijian. Lots of fish when someone at the resort caught some. Check with them on how they would charge a single diver. If they are not full, they might work something out with you. If you e-mail them you will get Martin, the owner.
